[edit] The Story
In a far away galaxy the evil emperor Zurg has made plans to construct an army of undefeatable robots. His lust for power requires every "crystallic fusion cells" or battery in the galaxy, so he has to steal them from the space vehicles of the "Little Green Men." Participants are "Star Command" raw recruits sent to defeat Zurg. The queue area is awash in the chartreuse, white, and bright blue hues of Buzz Lightyear himself. Since Buzz Lightyear is a toy, the attraction is cleverly scaled to give the illusion that you've just been reduced to the size of an action figure, featuring such detail as giant exposed screw heads and an explanation of the interactive phase of the ride that resembles a toy's instruction sheet, only on a gigantic scale. An Audio-Animatronic Buzz Lightyear figure and giant Etch-a-Sketch provide an explanation of the "mission." The Buzz Lightyear figure utilizes the latest Audio-Animatronic technology combined with an innovative video rear projection system for Buzz's face, resulting in one of the most lifelike Audio-Animatronic figures in Disney theme park history.
[edit] The Attraction
Each spacecruiser can hold two Space rangers, and each Space ranger has his own laser gun. The spacecruiser has a joystick which turns the cruiser so the space rangers can shoot the targets. To save the toys, you have to shoot as many targets as possible in the different scenes. When you return from your mission, you can check the the scoreboard to see how successful you were.
[edit] In other Disney parks
The first Buzz Lightyear attraction opened in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World on 3 November 1998 and was called 'Buzz Lightyear's SpaceRanger Spin'. Six years later, on 15 April 2004 Tokyo Disneyland followed with 'Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters'. On 5 May 2005 'Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters' opened in Disneyland, Anaheim. Hong Kong Disneyland also has a 'Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters' which opened on 12 September 2005. Finally, on 8 April 2006 Disneyland Paris followed.
The story and layout of all the Buzz Lightyear attractions are roughly the same. The only significant difference on the spacecruisers is that the first attractions have laser guns attached to the vehicle which can only rotate. Later versions have laser guns have a cord to keep them in the vehicle whilst allowing them to be completely movable.
