[edit] General

Walt Disney Studios is a live studio set in which you are backstage for the entire time, and see all kinds of recordings live.

[edit] History

Traditionally, Walt Disney Feature Animation has had an animation studio in every Disney Resort. The studio at Disneyland Resort Paris was located where Walt Disney Studios are today. Disney bought the Brizzi studio in 1990, and renamed it 'Walt Disney feature Animation'. The first movies from this studio were 'A Goofy Movie' and Mickey Mouse's short movie 'Runaway Train'. The studio also contributed to parts of every Disney movie from 'The Hunchback of the Notre Dame' until 'Atlantis'. The studio particularly contributed to the 'firebird suite' -part of Fantasia 2000. In 2001 the studio was closed to save money, and was replaced by the Walt Disney Studios park.

The Walt Disney Studios opened on 16 March 2002 and are the 10th Disney park in the world. Although plans for the Studios were present when Disneyland Resort Paris opened in 1992, low visitor numbers forced the resort to make Disneyland Park profitable before expanding. The park was opened as part of the The Walt Disney Company's initiative to open a new park in every Disney resort during 2002. The Walt Disney Studios is the smallest Disney park to date. When it opened, the park was criticised for having too little detail and theming, whilst having a small number of attractions compared to Disneyland Park. Most attractions were copies of attractions in the Studios in Florida and California. An exception is Moteurs... Action! Stunt Show Spectacular, which was exported to Disney-MGM Studios in Florida, where it is very popular.

[edit] Openings speech

To all who enter the studio of dreams, welcome. The Walt Disney Studios is dedicated to our timeless fascination and affection for cinema and for television. Here we celebrate the art and the artistry of storytelling from Europe and around the world to create the magic in a special place through our own memories of the past and our dreams of the future. - Michael D. Eisner, March 16, 2002

The Walt Disney Studios are divided in 4 areas, that are officially called Production Zones. The theme of the Studios is that visitors enter the park as a 'nobody', but leave as a star because they've played a role in attractions with a moviemaking theme.

[edit] Front Lot

The Front Lot is the Main Street of the Walt Disney Studios; it's where you enter the Studios. The buildings in this zone are warmly colored and look Spanish, in the style of the administrative part of a typical Hollywood moviestudio. Continuing, you walk through the Disney Studio 1 where you walk through a movie set like building with boutiques and a restaurant before you enter the other production zones.

[edit] Toon Studio

In the Toon Studio, the theme is Walt Disney classics. Here you can meet a lot of characters, and live the magic of the stories.

This area was previously known as Animation Courtyard.

[edit] Production Courtyard

Production Courtyard is an art-deco boulevard with different attractions themed around 'production'. The Studio Tram Tour and the TV Production Tour at the Walt Disney Television Studios offer a look behind the scenes (note, Walt Disney Television Studios has now closed and will be replaced with Stitch Live! which will open in March 2008).

[edit] Hollywood Boulevard

Hollywood Boulevard opened in December 2007. The land has Hollywood building facades which starts at the Disney Brothers Plaza and leads to The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and Studio Tram Tour.

[edit] Backlot

Special effects and movie magic are the themes of the Backlot. Here you will find the most popular attractions Rock 'n' Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith and the Moteurs... Action! Stunt Show Spectacular.

[edit] Future

In 2009, there are expansions and new attractions planned for the Walt Disney Studios:

[edit] Playhouse Disney-Live on stage

Get up-close with favourite characters from the Playhouse Disney channel, expected to open soon!

[edit] Theater District

Nothing has been fully confirmed yet but construction is apparently to start after Hollywood Boulevard construction is finished. The area will replace Production Courtyard and will have several Hollywood style moviesets in front of the existing buildings. Guests will have to go through these sets to discover the actual attractions.
